MY GALLERY PRESENTATION IS COMPLETE AND I am very pleased with the result. That written, I thought some of you might be interested–in case you might be planning such a project–re: the cost of doing so …..

My presentation is comprised of; 14 18x18” giclee* prints, 1 18x24” archival (acid fee) folio, acid free interleaving paper, 1 10x10” POD photo book:

paper - 100’ roll $ 150.00

ink 50.00 est.

folio 140.00

interleaving 20.00

photo book 165.00 50 pages + extra cost for 6-color printing

shipping costs 90.00

TOTAL $ 615.00 US

RE: paper + ink – I am fortunate enough to have a 24” wide format printer (+ a 5200K viewing / proofing set up) so my print cost was $15US / finished print. If I were to have had the prints made at a high-end printing source, the cost per print could have been in the $50-80US range which would have added an additional $900-1,000US to the cost.

In addition to the make-my-own-prints cost savings, there is the added advantage of control over the print making; I can make as many proof prints as needed–each with fine adjustments if necessary–in order to get a “perfect” print. The downside to making your own prints is the time required to do so. I spent approximately 24 hours on the print making process–fyi, a lot of that time was spent waiting around for prints to emerge from the printer.

All of that written, while this material was created for a specific gallery presentation, it will be making the rounds to an additional 4-5 galleries / art institutions. Simple math reveals that my investment in this presentation will, assuming 5 presentations, amount to $123.00US / presentation–well worth the time and money spent.
